The Canon FD 400mm f/2.8L was the world’s first f/2.8 aperture 400mm lens and upon introduction professional sports photographers fought each other over the chance to be among the first to shoot with it. This focal length/aperture combination yields superb results for many sports shooting applications. The 400mm f/2.8L uses two large Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) elements assuring sharpness at all apertures. A one-touch vertical/horizontal tripod collar and internal focusing provide good balance and handling on a tripod.
The Canon 400mm f/2.8L is a superb tool for sports, nature and fashion photography and can be used for full-aperture metering when mounted on any of Canon SLR models including and after the F-1, EF and FTb models.
